Common thief, speedster, Richard Rider, last know location... alright Ryan silently read to himself as he reached the car that Pike was already waiting for him in.
Pike, He nodded as he climbed into the driver's seat. This is what we got:
Male Speedster, guilty of several charges of assault in the airport and repeated robberies in various grocery and clothing stores
He hits the 42nd Mall frequently, in fact so frequently that we are going to intercept and capture him, Stark thinks we could do with someone like that on our team.
We are basically going to split up, I will mark him out in the crowd and you are going to wait here Ryan pointed to a shrunken blueprint of the mall, of which was huge, I'm going to push him into this corner and when he uses his speed to escape he will come up against you barring the door
The plan was sound as he waited for Pike to take it all in, as he had done last time they were in this position he handed her the file and ignited the car's engine before setting off to their destination.

Elyse took the file and looked it over. Okay, she felt a little better about this one than she had about the Darkholme girl. Yes it was an apprehension but this guy was actually guilty of something. Repeat offender in fact, according to the file. There was no persuasion aspect to this mission. Technically the guy should be heading to a prison cell rather than joining this team, but it could be looked at as a case of community service. Instead of sitting in a jail cell he'd be making himself useful.
She was armed as she was last time, with both tranqs and lead, but she wasn't going to make the same mistake as last time, Elyse told herself. She'd pay attention to the object of the mission rather than how she wanted it to play out. The burns on her hands were still healing, but they were functional enough for her to do her job.
Elyse nodded as he explained the plan, looking over the blueprint of the mall. "This guy's gotta have one hell of a metabolism, are tranqs going to work on him?" she asked.
Tranqs? Well she is learning... A sedated potential employee was much better than a kicking and thrashing one, and so much better than one that blew doors up.
Tranqs will be our first port of call if he does try and run, he has no known associates so we are going to just get in there an bring him in, we will however try and have him come with us peacefully, i have been told to offer him money and information with someone we believe his is looking for
If the initial contact fails we are to pull out if the situation gets too hot, this mission is flagged as low priority.
Car whizzed by on either side as the two of them casual cruised through the urban jungle that was new York, their destination slowly approaching.
Now why on earth didn't we try that with Darkholme? Elyse thought to herself with a twinge of annoyance. If she'd had some kind of real incentive to offer the girl, maybe she wouldn't have ended up with a door blowing up in her face. But no, they were offering the criminal money. Definitely something wrong with this picture. Orders were orders though, even if they didn't make sense. That was one thing that didn't change no matter what organization one was in.
Elyse finished looking over the blueprints, then rested the file in her lap as Ryan continued to drive. "Seems like we might have an easier time this time around then. Why didn't we offer anything like that to the girl?" she asked out of curiosity.
We were not told of anything we could offer her, though there was nothing saying that you couldn't lie to her, Ryan gave a casual shrug, in his opinion the extraction of the Darkholme girl had gone as smooth as one could have expected, afterall there was no such thing as a perfect mission.
This paticular trouble maker may not be persuaded by the idea of money but he is, according to our intel anyway, looking for a certain someone, we say we know where he is and then hopefully we won't have an trouble
The car pulled into the carpark and after setting the vehicle in the automated parking facility the two got out of the car and entered the mall,
Alright Pike go and wait at the exit shown earlier, ill radio you when i have spotted him,
Richard looked around the mall, he seemed to be here at least once a week to make sure he had the money he needed to pay his rent. He also liked to get himself up some new clothes and it killed most of his day.
Clothes or food first, this was the question that always ran through his mind when he got to the mall. It seemed no matter what time he got there he would always be hungry and he hated stealing shit on empty stomach. Richard pondered the question a bit longer before deciding that food would have to wait today and so would the clothes, it seemed he had been careless this month and was starting to get low on cash.
This meant only one thing, robbing one of the stores. This didn’t use to pose too much of a problem for Richard, but since the amount of thefts had increased in the last few weeks security had tightened. Richard scanned the area looking for all the security staff, he knew most of their faces by now, and after all he always had to check where they were when got in. But there was one man that caught his attention, Richard didn’t recognise is face yet the man looked like an undercover officer and it seemed as if he was scanning the area for someone.
Richard dismissed the thought and looked around the mall for a store worth stealing from, most of the time he would just steal a few wallets to make up the money, but he felt like branching out and getting the next few months of rent in one go. He set his sights on a big hardware store that was always full of people but didn’t have too many staff making it an easy place to rob. As Richard made his way over there he had an eerie feeling that he was being watched or worse followed.
There was a group of teenagers hanging around outside a store, parents dragging their children from shop to shop, an old couple taking a leisurely stroll, browsing the various shops. It was your average hustle and bustle of the insignificant people on an average insignificant day, and Jack blended with the crowd easily. He kept his face low and his hood up, walking between the people, bumping shoulders with people too busy to notice their wallets being taken. Pick pocketing was easy, once you new how. A slight flick of the wrist, slight of hand, make sure they feel the shoulder bump but not the hand reaching in the jacket pocket. Possible turn and apologize, but mostly just keep walking and they think nothing of it. With his ill gotten gains he had managed to buy some new shoes. His old pair now in a bin, too many holes and to worn out to be any more use. He had also managed to get a new jacket, which better disguised him in a crowd, he didn't look quite so homeless and out of place now.
He was sat on a bench now, watching the various people rush around. A rounded woman with a small child was now trying to negotiate carrying several bags, and the bratty child, which was refusing to walk any further. A security guard walked by the stores, scanning the area for something, or someone. Jack had been here only once before, a few days ago and since then the security seemed to haven increased. It didn't make much difference to him, whilst he did steal wallets he always used the money for clothes, preferring not to steal those if he could avoid it, although it would probably be easier.
Elyse made her way to the exit that Ryan had indicated, glancing into store window occasionally as she passed them though, looking like she was window shopping. It was a full crowd today and she passed by people of all ages and walks of life, just going about their business. It was good that it was busy; it allowed her and her coworker to blend in, but it allowed the target to blend in as well, and if something went wrong there would be a lot of civilians around who could possibly get hurt. Hopefully it wouldn't go that far though.
When she reached the exit Elyse leaned against the wall next to the doors and taking her cell phone out from the pocket of her jacket, glanced at the time as if she was waiting for someone. People went in and out of the doors and she glanced at them casually, but mainly waited for Ryan's call that he had found the target.
one... two and a third/ Ryan watched and counted in his head as the elevator went to the top floor of the mall. The massive construct was riddled with shops for this, that and everything else, mainly clothes. To Ryan it made little sense in spending hard earned cash on clothes. Especially when half, if not the majority of these people were only going to wear an expensive outfit once and then throw it away.
So he idly watched the masses fill the air with bad breath caused from bad food which they picked up and ate on the go. Money was falling from one hand to another for small material goods that would, despite what the consumer believed, have little to no effect on their downright miserable life. He looked and judged the people that were getting small beneath his feet not because he actually cared but it made him look like he wasn't actually following someone, which he was.
The plan was to approach the target, of whom Ryan was already gaining on, on the top floor near the stairwell. From there he would move down the steps and run straight into pike, the exit she had guarded was quiet enough to minimize casualties if things got hot.
A moment passed as he got out of the elevator, his target was only an arms length away now and undoubtedly knew Ryan was there. Placing a hand on the man shoulder he got his attention,
Richard Rider... He began as the man turned around, I have a proposition for you, if you would like to discuss it, it involves a certain man you are going through great lengths to track down,
If you would like to know more then come with me....
Richard walked with a purpose but was still unable to shake the feeling that he was being followed, back when he was in the gang he would have left a job with a feeling like this. But for some reason he had stopped listing to his gut since the incident that had brought him to America in the first place. As he started to think that he was right to ignore his gut, he felt a hand grab his shoulder.
Richard felt as if his heart had stopped when the hand hit his shoulder, time seemed to slow down. Part of him was hoping that Lovac had been the one to touch him, thoughts of his brother ran through his mind as he turned to face the stranger. As Richard was turning he heard his name spoken, knowing instantly from the voice that it was not the man he was looking for.
The stranger spoke to Richard in a cool and precise way. The way the man spoke had made Richard feel like he was not to be trusted and the words that came out of his mouth hit Richard like a tonne of bricks. “I have a proposition for you, if you would like to discuss it, it involves a certain man you are going through great lengths to track down,”. Could this man be trusted everything about him screamed at Richard to run as fast as his legs would take him, but the thought of finding Lovac after so much time spent searching to no avail. But for all Richard new this man worked for Lovac and was sent here to lure Richard into a trap so he could finish what he had. The thoughts ran through Richards head at a million miles an hour as he tried to decide the best option.
Richard looked deep into the man’s eyes, he looked for something to help tell him what to do. Then it hit him ignoring his gut got him into this situation. Every fibber of Richard’s body screamed at him to run and he was not going to ignore his gut this time. Richard smiled at the man as he planned his route of escape though his head, the stranger just looked back at him. Richard smile faded as he rubbed his hands together and leaned in close to the man so he could whisper in his ear. “Fuck you fagot”. Richard spoke quietly as he shoved the man in the chest with his weakened charge, barely stronger than an electric fence.
Richard turned and ran not waiting to see what kind of effect he had on the stranger, he followed the route in his head perfectly. Richard had no need for his speed in the mall too many people would be able to tell he was a mutant and yet he still used it but barely. The route he planned would take him to where there was less people as well as an exit that lead him right to the allay behind the mall and freedom.
As he turned the last corner to the exit he stopped, stood in front of him of was a woman blocking his route out. “Get out of my way before I move you from it bitch”. Richard screamed at the strange lady, he was normally not a violent person, but something about that strange man had shook him up and he was not sure why.
Kiryu walked round the mall. He was just doing a bit of window shopping, and so far not much had peaked his interest, except a couple of brightly coloured hawiian shirts that he'd seen a few shops back, but the price had put him off those. It wasn't like home, money was tight now with this new group pulling his leash. Been a while since they've called me come to think of it. Kiryu thought to himself. He didn't like being under someone's thumb especially people who hadn't made any of their intentions clear, other than to use him for the odd mission, which mostly consisted of stuff any old sap could do. Suppose it could be worse, a lot worse, at least they pay me he thought. It made no sense to him.
Kiryu turned as he heard hurried footsteps coming from the direction behind him. He saw Richard running in his general direction. He was an odd fellow, Kiryu couldn't work him out, he seemed nice enough, but always kind of distant as well. A little while ago they had found out that both of them were mutants along with their landlord, it'd been weird at first, but then everything turned back to normal and no one really mentioned it. He'd also discovered that Richard was a thief, after seeing him steal stuff from the mall before. He shook his head, clearly security had cottoned on this time. Idiot obviously comes here too often. Kiryu wondered if he should mention something when they got home. He thought that it probably wasn't a good idea, he wasn't a thief, he was a debt collector and enforcer, very different. Though he could probably still make jokes about it round the house.
Kiryu knew he should stay away but he was interested in seeing what would happen, so he followed Richard with a brisk walk, making sure to keep his distance, so that no one would associate either of them with each other. He'd just come across as a curious shopper wanting to see what the commotion was all about, which he pretty much was.
For a speedster he isn't putting in a lot of effort The speedster known as Richard Rider was creating distance between himself and Ryan but not enough to leave the soldier in the dust. The crowds separated in a hustle and bustle of screams and umphs as civilian and security alike were tossed aside.
Rider had done little to slow Ryan down, though he did notice the little extra electric shock that was added to the blow. Electric charge or not Rider's profile depicted him as a standard speedster type and if it came to it he would merely put a bullet through the young mans chest.
They crossed the upper floors in a flurry of movement, crashed down the steps, though Rider had made space between then Pike was exactly where she needed to be and from the sound of the shouting had done what was necessary in stopping him in his tracks.
Rounding the corner he pushed through the quickly gathering crowd,
"New Order, Stop or I'll open fire!" Ryan's gun was leaving its holster before he had finished calling, anymore grief and a bullet through Rider's heel would finish this fiasco, especially before anyone else got hurt.
Jack felt his body freeze. His mind had clouded over and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. He had been walking toward the exit, ignoring everything around him when he had heard it.
"New Order, Stop or I'll open fire!"
There was a huddle of people to his right, a few ducking and moving away, others trying to see the cause of the commotion and in the center, a woman and two men. The cocky looking guy in the middle was clearly looking for a way out of trouble, whilst the other two both had guns trained on him. Jack could feel the pull of the Dark matter in the back of his mind, nagging him, persisting that he devour them all that instant. Wraith took a step forward. Dark wisps formed and spread from his feet, trailing up around and away from his legs, fists, head, until all of him was emitting the smokey substance, which quickly spread to envelop the space around him. 'New Order?' His mind raced. Clearly they would not have been the ones responsible for taking his son, he doubted very much that they would even have been there, but the must know something, the MUST. The Dark matter was spreading rapidly, forming around the agents and the bewildered man in the middle. A thought passed in Wraiths mind that he had seen the middle man before, but it was gone as quick as it came. The entire floor of the mall was now completely engulfed in thick black smoke, and people could be heard, all around screaming and whimpering in the dark. Wraith could feel everything. Every inch that the Dark matter touched he could feel as if he was actual touching it. The agents still had their guns raised, but defensively, no longer aiming at the original target.
When the target came Elyse was ready. Spotting the young man who was moving just a bit too fast to be human, she drew the gun loaded with tranquilizers in her primary hand and blocked the exit, training the gun on him as he approached. The man yelled at her but she didn't move an inch, not firing but just making sure he didn't leave before Ryan got there.
Her partner approached a moment later, ordering the target to stop. "I'd listen to him." Elyse told Rider, also prepared to fire if necessary. Keeping the gun aimed at him, she drew out her other four arms, to grab the guy, pull out an extra gun, or do whatever else was necessary to try to stop him if he bolted.
The smoke seemed to come out of nowhere, surrounding her and Rider and everyone else around. It completely shut out the light, and Elyse could hear people start to panic. This didn't seem like what would come from a fire though, and there was nothing mentioned in the file about Rider being able to create something like this, so someone or something else had to be causing it. Now here was the question: given the lack of visibility, would the target take the opportunity to escape or would he try to attack? Elyse was still blocking the exit, and because of that she kept her gun aimed where it had been before the smoke appeared. It was times like these though that her mutation was useful and she drew the other gun, the one not loaded with tranquilizers. If there was someone else involved here, she wanted to be ready.
Her suspicion was confirmed when the voice came through the darkness, over the screams and crying of the panicking shoppers. He dared them to fire, did he? Elyse mentally flipped a coin. She'd had a perfect shot lined up when the room went dark. The target could have fled, or he could still be there, confused by what was going on. If he'd moved, then there was a good chance that she could hit a bystander, and while her superiors would probably be fine with that, Elyse wouldn't, even though it was only a tranquilizer. So she held her fire, listening for an indication of where either her target or the unknown person was.
Richard looked back and fourth from the two people that had him surrounded. His heart pounded at his chest as he thought about running he was almost positive that he could dodge a bullet not that he had ever tried it. He watched as the woman in front of him seamed to grow more limbs. Richard was both shocked and stunned by this, his jaw drooped as he watched.
Richard didn't understand what was going on, he was positive that Lovac had sent these people to kill him thats why he ran. But the New Order he didn't know who they were or what they would want with him. Richard's mind raced as he thought about all his options and just as he deiced the best thing to was to give himself in, he got helped out by a strange black smoke that covered the whole area.
As the smoke hid Richard from the sight of the others, he dropped to the floor so that even if they fired blind he would be safe. Richard began to crawl for where he thought the main hall was and the next closest exit. He made sure to move slowly so as not to run into anyone.
As Richard moved he was sure that he was free now and the chance to blot was only moments away. Then he felt it a foot, the person seemed to be stood. The thought ran through Richards mind, he had just given himself away and he now had no choice but to give himself up. Richard raised his head slowly as he expected to see a gun pointing down at him. Richard looked at the person from a moment as his mind got use to what had just happened and what could happen next. But he just looked up at his roommate and friend with a smile on his face, "Having a good day at the mall kiryu".
