• Power | Gambit mutation grants him the ability to tap into the potential energy held within an object and transform it into Kinetic energy upon touching it. When used this ability also allows him to use these items, or even himself to discharge this energy that explodes in discharge of kinetic energy on impact.
His powers where limited by Mister Sinister’s Brain Stem surgery in his earlier years, and lowered to his ‘natural’ potential, where the build up of Kinetic Energy stored within him is kept at bearable levels. However this limited his ability and forced him to be unable to charge living tissue of any other being, after having his powers restarted by Sage after losing them, he had his ‘hidden’ potential untapped again. This enabled him to charge living flesh, as well as charge items merely by sight not just touch. He also gathered a level of control over the amount of discharge enabling him to use his powers far more effectively then he could beforehand.
A side effect of Gambits powers of tapping into energy is that he has a superhuman agility and dexterity, as well as creating a static interference that shields his mind from all but the most powerful psychics and telepathist. Although several key opponents have shown that this ability has failed on more than one occasion, allowing them to enter Gambit inner most memories and thoughts.
One of his most under assessed abilities is that he possesses a near hypnotic charm that allows him to exert a subtle yet powerful influence over another sentient mind. This power allows Gambit to compel others to believe what he says and agree to anything he suggests. Powerful minds have proven to be immune to his charm, as have those who are aware of the power.
• Weapons | Telescopic Bo staff, (charged) playing cards, throwing knives, shurikens, Rapier (this is used rarely)
• Weaknesses | While Remy’s abilities don’t leave him much room for weaknesses there are defiantly a few that he would tell you about. The constant build up of energy within his body being one, it can get unbearably uncomfortable for Remy if he doesn’t discharge his energy, feeling as if he has a giant headache and muscle pains while this energy is still built up within him.
Of course his age is beginning to get the better of him, while his power gives him the slight ability of being able to put up with the constant acrobatic abilities of both his trade and heritage he is not as limber or agile as he was in his 20’s or even his 30’s.
He is still slightly gullible, and he knows it. Several times Remy has fallen for illusions or tricks played by villains to gain his powers or at least his assistance. This has led him to be untrusting of everyone around him and he cannot befriend people very easily.
His final weakness is of course his family, he would do anything to protect them, even if it involved the death of innocents. He didn’t spend years saving Rogue for her to be taken away for a choice of her life or some random.
• Skills | Remy is completely fluent in both English and French, able to blend between the two at will, backed up by the sound of his Cajun accent. He has also mastered the art of throwing his items fast and accurately, his weaponry of choice; playing cards, however he has been known to throw ninja stars, throwing knifes even charged baseballs each as hard and accurately as his card trademark.
Gambit is also a master duellist and fencer, using a mix of swords and other weapons, however he is unmatched when it comes to the art of fighting with a Bo Staff, which combined with his ability to release potential energy is a dangerous and effective mix.
Remy has a natural knack for card games, and can usually sit on a table slowly winning across every chip that is placed on its surface, that is unless he gets accused for card counting and kicked out of the casino.

• Height | 6’3”
• Weight | 179lbs
• Hair color & Style | Brown, midlength, usually swept behind his ears or kept in a bandanna
• Eye color | Black with glowing red pupils
• Face claim | Johnny Depp
• Overall Appearance | A hard life of thievery and time with the X-Men has left Remy with a well toned body, even for one entering his midlife. He likes to take care of his physique, by working out in the gym. He still keeps his hair ear length, and while it is still brown, blonde highlights have appeared after his having an influx of energy absorption after his powers were restarted by Sage. The trademark black and red iris eyes are usually kept under shades when out in public, not for his own vanity, but for the protection of his family and himself, as not everyone still accepts mutants in “normal” society.
Unable to leave aside his trademark trenchcoat, he wear it as much as possible, along with his gloves and (if on a mission) body armour. While in public view he opts for more civilian clothing, jeans and shirts, usually combined with said trenchcoat and boots. Of course, he never goes anywhere without his faithful Bo, or pack of cards, even having a set of “emergency” cards in his car and home, just in case an emergency strip poker game starts up, y’know.

• Favorite Color | Red, the color of passion, of love and of hate
• Likes |
• Dislikes |
' Bratty children – something he hoped he avoided his children becoming, those that think the world owes them something
[/ul]
• Fears | A member of his family dying or being captured, a war between the Thieves and Assassins, The New Order seizing power
• Goals/ dreams | To build a better life for his children to grow up in.
• Overall Personality | While once an insatiable flirt and serial gambler, age has matured LeBeau. While he still enjoys the thrill of the occasional flirt, he still tries to remain loyal to his wife. Gambling, however, is a harder mistress to set aside and his addictive personality means he can sometimes loose hours at a card table, drinking and smoking with the best of them. However, if his years have taught him anything, it’s how to quit when you’re ahead.
Remy LeBeau is a high risk, high stake sort of person hard to trust and had to gain trust from, yet you could never gain a more loyal friend in the world. Despite his rough appearance and southern attitude inside he really is a soft nurtured man, showing only the most dedicated love and affection for his wife, his children and his friends. He consistently puts his life on the line for the protection of not only the X-Men but mankind and humans alike.
He is very pig headed, if he sets his mind to do something he is very rarely dissuaded. While overall a “good” individual, in that he does no harm to innocent people, is someone has wronged them, then they had better look over their shoulder for the rest of their life. He can hold a grudge for a while, a big believer of the popular saying “revenge is a dish best served cold”.

• Overall history | (for the tl;dr crowd, the real juicy stuff starts at paragraph ten)
The man that would become known as Gambit was born in a hospital in downtown New Orleans, yet was abandoned by his birth parents due to the superstition caused by his appearance. Burning red eyes marked him out as something special, something unusual, and it was this fact that drew him to being kidnapped by the Thieves Guild of New Orleans who referred to the infant as ‘Le Diable Blanc’ or in English translation ‘The White Devil.’
The Thieves Guild believed the child to be the prophesised male who would reunite the two warring New Orleans Guilds; the Thieves and the Assassins. With the hope that he would become the hope they need Remy was placed into the care of a gang of street thieves, where it was expected for him to learn the ways of thievery. He continued his life as a street thief; pick pocketing and hustling all around the New Orleans streets; however his life would change shortly after the young Cajun had turned ten.
Pulling upon an opportunity young Remy attempted to pick the pocket of the Jean-Luc LeBeau, the current Patriarch of the Thieves’ Guild. Despite being caught in the act Jean-Luc was impressed with both the potential ability and daring of the young red-eyed boy and took him in to his own family, officially making the young Cajun Remy LeBeau. It was the young man’s introduction into the Patriarchal family that allowed the belief of the reunion between the Thieves and the Assassin Guild’s and in an attempt to create a peace pact between the two Guilds a marriage was arranged between Remy and Bella Donna Boudreaux; the grand-daughter of the Assassin’s Guild Patriarch. However an objection by BellaDonna’s brother Julien led to Remy being challenged to a duel by the Assassin Guild member. During the following duel Remy killed Julien in self-defence, but was still forced to leave New Orleans in a state of banishment to retain the peace treaty between the two Guilds.
So it was that Remy LeBeau found himself excommunicated and banished from New Orleans, forcing him to travel further afield to gain both a living and improve upon his skills. Using his mutant ability to use explosively charged objects Remy LeBeau soon gained a reputation and his trademark was becoming well known, explosive playing cards that he would throw as a weapon soon became as well known as the name that it brought him.
Gambit.
His power of building up huge amounts of Kinetic Energy within his body slowly began to take its toll on the Cajun, who sought out the aid of the famous and skilled Genetic Scientist Dr. Sinister. After a lengthy procedure which involved parts of Remy’s brain tissue being removed Gambit found himself able to comfortably use his ‘downgraded’ powers without the constant annoyance of having unbearable amounts of energy inside him. Of course his new found freedom didn’t come without a cost and Remy was in the debt of Sinister who hired him out to form a group that would be known as the Marauders.
The Marauder’s were tasked by Sinister to head underground, and unknown to Gambit were to massacre the underground mutant community known as the Morlocks, the Cajun Mutant, who caught on far too late tried to stop the events about to take place, but try to stop he did, and after nearly being killed by another Mutant member of the Marauders called Sabertooth Remy managed to escape the Underground community, saving one Morlock infant on the way out.
It was shortly after this that Remy LeBeau befriended a young girl thief, this young girl turned out to be a full grown woman named Storm, who under the mysterious magic of her enemy the Shadow Lord had been transformed into a younger version of herself. Aided by Gambit; Storm was able to escape the clutches of the evil Shadow Lord and escaped with Remy back to New York and it was this that began Remy LeBeau’s career as an X-Man.
Within the X-Men Remy met his soul mate, fellow team-member and mutant Rogue, Anna-Marie and Remy fell into each other’s hearts and became as it was entitled ‘doomed to never touch each other.’ Despite the frustrations of the pair the relationship blossomed throughout the years, even during the time that Gambit became involved with several key world events, right from Magneto’s attempt to remove Remy permanently to the New Sun situation in which Remy fought with what turned out to be another version of himself from another dimension.
Rogue and Gambit even branched off in a separate sub-faction with four other X-Men, searching for Destinies Diaries, artefacts that were said to predict the future. However during the mission both Rogue and Remy were rendered powerless by unknown forces, the pair abandoning the X-Team and departing to live a ‘normal’ life in the Mutant Friendly community of Valle Soleade in California.
It was during this time that the two married, and soon after, discovered that Rogue was pregnant with their firstborn. Wanting to be with their “family” at such a time, they returned to the Mansion, where Rogue gave birth to a healthy boy, Claude. With glowing eyes like his father, both Remy and Rogue knew he would develop powers later in life, and so took the decision to return to living at the Mansion, surrounded by the support of their friends.
Not long after Rogue gave birth, her adoptive mother Mystique dropped of her daughter, Rogues “sister”, off at the Mansion, where Rogue felt it was her duty to raise the child and give her the loving home her mother could not. While Remy had his doubts about the child, he kept them quiet for the love of his wife, and accepted Lexi into his family.
Not long after this, both Remy and Rogue’s powers were kick started by Sage. Much to their surprise, Rogue discovered she had more control over her powers, allowing them to touch without her absorbing his powers and memories.
He and Rogue left the Mansion, to try and build a family life for their new son and adopted daughter. Three years after the birth of their son, Rogue fell pregnant with her second child, and after a worrying pregnancy, she gave birth to Rosalie, whose mutant power was active at her birth, as a fail-safe against her mother’s powers.
Another three years later, and they had their final child, Desiree, who was a perfect mix of the two of them. With a large family, Remy was happy, even starting to cut down on his thieving ways to spend time with them, and try and set a good example, but it was engrained into his being, and he soon fell back in to his old habits.
It was shortly after Claude’s tenth birthday that news reached him of the conflict in New Orleans. The Assassins and Thieves were on the verge of war, and it came to no surprise to the Cajun that his ex-wife was squarely in the middle. After many heated discussions between the two sides, Remy and BellaDonna came to a shaky understanding that in order for the two Guilds to truly trust one another was to exchange a member of each for training. Both BellaDonna and Remy agreed to exchange their first born sons to show their commitment to the cause. While Remy hated to see Claude go, he knew it had to be for the good of the Guild, and welcomed the young Boudreaux boy with open arms.
Trying to let his children see a normal life, Remy and Rogue decided to send them to a “normal” school, even though both had misgivings with the number of anti-mutant rally’s going on. As each of them came into their mutant powers, he sent them to Xavier’s for training, still sure that this was the best place for them, a safe and secure place to expand and test their powers, even if he still didn’t trust his daughters around the inevitable boys.
While he and Rogue were visiting their children and old friends at the Mansion, it came under attack by members of the New Order, and anti-mutant group. Years of training kicked in, and Remy and Rogue led the children into the secret tunnels, putting the safety of the students before themselves. It was to his horror that he found his youngest daughter was not among those led to safety, and set off to get her. He found her, defending herself against New Order soldiers and he quickly came to her aid, taking out as many soldiers as he could, but during the skirmish he was wounded, and fell into a dead faint, the distressed cries of his daughter the last thing he heard.
When he awoke, he found himself a prisoner of the New Order, placed in a power-nulling cell, handcuffed and heavily sedated. He was groggy at first, and his demands for news of his family were met with scorn. Eventually, he was told that experimental nano-technology had been placed in his body, and if he made an attempt to escape, they would destroy him. In order to stop him from committing suicide, the New Order taunted him with threats to his family, whom he was told knew he was still alive and were looking for him. Remy swallowed this lie, as it was the only thing to keep him going in the depressing seven years he was kept prisoner, forced to do the New Orders bidding as their pet mutant.

A sideways glance at the teen sat next to him, his dark glasses hiding this peek from her. They called her Rogue, an appt name for the feisty untouchable girl. He could almost feel the waves of teenage hormones rolling off her as they sat in the cramped car. He let out a hiss under his breath, just his LeBeau luck that he’d have to desire the one girl he couldn’t touch.
‘Always wantin’ wotcha can’t have LeBeau,’ he thought to himself, taking off his shades so he could see his team mate more clearly.
“’Course I’m sure, chere. What, you no trust Remy no more?” he asked, patting down his trenchcoat as he checked his essentials, cards, knife, Bo and cigarettes.
He clicked his tongue as she called him her favourite nickname. “No, would hardly help our little… mission now would it, you alertin’ de entire neighbour hood. Let Gambit handle de theivin’, ‘tis what I’m best at, you keep a lookout.”
